SALARY: $10,908 annual TYPE: Full Time / 40 hours DEADLINE: 5/30/2008
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The central goal of this VISTA project is to expand access to out-of-school programming for low-income youth through improving the quality and effectiveness of Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council's programming. We will accomplish this goal by focusing on two initiatives: the FILM Project and the Club-to-Camp-Initiative. The FILM Project at Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council was piloted in 2007-08 as a supplemental media literacy component for use in our club program. This year, the VISTA will focus on expanding the program to additional sites and age-groups. The Club to Camp Initiative is Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council's effort to expand access to outdoor education for low-income youth. This year, the VISTA will work with the department to develop strategies to enhance the Club-to-Camp Initiative. By developing recruitment methods and training modules, by fostering positive communication between the partner and Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council, and by exploring expansion possibilities, the VISTA will build systems that will help facilitate these initiatives.
Key responsibilities include: researching F.I.L.M. and developing age-appropriate curriculum; planning and implementing the FILM project curriculum at three sites and planning for future expansion; developing a training plan and training program delivery staff to implement the FILM and club-to-camp projects; as well as developing and implementing tools to evaluate project success. The VISTA will also identify and document successful aspects of the FILM and club-to-camp projects; further develop the best practices report; and coordinate recruitment methods, training modules and communication between program staff to expand the club-to-camp initiative. The VISTA will co-lead a club program to gain a better understanding of the communities being served.
