1951

Camp Cheewin purchased for Blue Bird campers on Green Lake.

1954

The national headquarters adopts a statement calling for greater inclusiveness of all groups within all segments of membership.

Grand Rapids Council of Camp Fire chartered. Planning and fundraising for Camp Bluewater begins.

Tenterra built at Camp Tanadoona to provide a primitive camping experience for older campers.

1955

Little Falls Camp Fire Council chartered.

1955-1958

Camp Bluewater built by volunteers.

1957

Camp Lokinda purchased near Rosemount.

Camp Trelipe purchased near Grand Rapids.

1958

Construction begins at Camp Lokinda.

First camping season at Camp Bluewater.

1960

Camp Fire celebrates its 50th anniversary with the “She Cares… Do You?” program.

1961

Camp Tawanki purchased near Bethel.

Lodge dedicated at Camp Tanawaha near Saint Peter.

1963

Camp Patakoda purchased near Hugo.

1964-1967

Through the Metropolitan Critical Areas Project, Camp Fire launches a national effort to reach low-income, predominantly urban girls.  The purpose of the program is to meet the special needs and promote the healthy social development of these youth and to locate, train and retain neighborhood volunteers.

1974

Minneapolis Council received Award of Excellence from President Nixon.

1975

Camp Fire expands its horizons and officially invites boys to participate in all Camp Fire activities.  Today, 46% of the youth served by Camp Fire are boys.

Minneapolis Council receives Award of Excellence from President Ford.
