In Memoriam
Remembering Ethel Shebeck
Ethel Shebeck, a longtime member and supporter of Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council, passed away November 14, 2009 at the age of 93. Ethel was a member of Camp Fire for over 40 years and served, most recently, as the treasurer for the Circle of Friends Camp Fire alumni group.
Longtime friend and member of the Circle of Friends LaVonne Thompson remembers Ethel as a “dedicated soul.”
“She loved Tanadoona,” Thompson recalls, “She put in a lot of time and energy there.”
Ethel was highly involved with Camp Fire as an adult. In addition to helping with her daughter’s Camp Fire group, Ethel led annual trips for high school-age Camp Fire girls to various parts of the country. These bus trips were a chance for the girls to visit places such as Boston and New Orleans. Ethel was always a strong leader and a great role model for the girls on these trips, co-leader and friend Jean Jackson recalls.
Ethel received numerous awards for her service to Camp Fire, including the Luther Halsey Gulick Award - the highest form of recognition given by Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council.
