Family Night at New Village Brings Families Together to Celebrate
December 14, 2009
The first Camp Fire Family Night at CommonBond’s New Village Co-op was a huge success. Family members of New Village Camp Fire club members came to see what their children had been doing in Camp Fire club and to meet the club leaders.
"It is important for us to engage the families of our youth in activities that we do in our clubs," said Ge Xiong, vice president of operations. "Building relationships with families creates a strong and supportive community for the youth in our organizations."
The evening’s main event was a game of bingo for club members and their families. The first bingo winner of the evening was the mother of three Camp Fire club members, and she exemplified the celebratory tone of the evening as she jumped up, yelled “Bingo!” and did a little dance.
Many younger siblings of Club members came to the event, and they were all excited to be a part of their older siblings’ Camp Fire experience. The New Village Camp Fire club started this fall, so it was great to see such strong support.
Ashley Burke, the club’s leader, remembers her favorite moment of the event: “A little sibling of one of my Camp Fire club members walked up to me and whispered in my ear, ‘Guess what!’ Then she looked up at me with a big smile and said ‘I'm going to be in Kindergarten next year and that means that next year you can be my teacher too!’ and she gave me a huge hug!”
