Job Title: After-School Club Leader
Purpose: Plan, implement, and support Camp Fire USA’s out of school time programs.
Reports To: Community Programs Manager

Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council provides coeducational programs for youth throughout the Twin Cities.  Camp Fire works in collaboration with other community-based groups to offer enrichment programs for youth when and where they need them. Camp Fire is inclusive and welcoming to all children, youth, and adults. The mission of Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council is to build caring, confident youth and future leaders.

We are currently seeking a club leader to plan and lead group activities for a youth club (ages 5-12 years old).  The Club Leader will work with a consistent group of youth throughout the program term. 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead age-appropriate after-school activities based on Camp Fire USA curriculum.
  • Foster a positive group dynamic with a small group of children.
  • Prepare and implement a behavior management plan for clubs.
  • Complete administrative responsibilities for club sites: track attendance, complete club reports, administer youth evaluations, complete meeting plans, etc.
  • Participate in field trips and special events as needed.
  • Perform family outreach and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Attend monthly and quarterly trainings.  Monthly trainings are held the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 – 8:30pm. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Experience working in education, youth development, human services or social services required.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of youth.
  • Flexible and able to adjust to last-minute program changes as needed.
  • Positive attitude a must!
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Available to work at least Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 4:15pm – 6:45pm. 
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to site in Roseville.
  • Must be able to commit to a consistent schedule through May.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply. 

Benefits:

  • Hourly wage of $10.00 - $11.00 depending on experience.
  • Mileage reimbursement or bus expense reimbursement for work-related travel.
  • Monthly and quarterly training on youth development, behavior management, and curricula.

Job Title: Program Counselor
Purpose: Identify and meet camper needs, provide guidance and leadership, carry out camp program.
Reports To: Camp Director

Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council provides coeducational programs for youth throughout the Twin Cities.  Camp Fire USA's Camp Tanadoona is an authentic summer camp located in the southwest suburbs between Chanhassen and Excelsior MN. We offer both Day and Overnight Camp opportunities for youth ages 5 – 16. We also organize wilderness trips to Camp Fire USA's Camp Bluewater in Grand Rapids, MN. Camp Fire is inclusive and welcoming to all children, youth, and adults. The mission of Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council is to build caring, confident youth and future leaders.

Camp Fire is currently seeking counselors to work with our day, overnight, and adventure camp programs. Staff receive training in youth development and programming. Staff positions available to live on or off camp. Staff are paid a bi-weekly and have most Saturdays off.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers.
  2. Abilities to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  3. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  4. Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and program implementation.
  5. Reading and writing ability to plan and conduct activity schedules and documentation.
  6. Maintain American Camp Association and Camp Fire USA Minnesota Council standards at all times.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Desire and ability to work with children and adults outdoors in an active environment.
  2. Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
  3. Ability to relate to one’s peer group and to children.
  4. Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  5. Ability to lead and teach activities.
  6. High school graduate or equivalent, and at least 18 years of age.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Guide groups and individual campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
  2. Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group and with individual campers.
  3. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success during their camp stay.
  4. Help each participant meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
  5. Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers.
  6. Carry out established roles for supervising camper health and enforcing camp safety regulations.
  7. Develop opportunities for positive interaction between campers.
  8. Supervise all aspects of the campers’ day including but not limited to:

Resident Camp – Morning wake-up, community jobs, meal times, cabin time, evening and all-camp activities, getting ready for bed and overnights assigned.
Day Camp – Group activities, community jobs, meal times, and overnight activities, early and late assigned activities.

  1. Instruct campers in emergency procedures, behavior guidelines and expectations.
  2. Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, meetings and supervision.
  3. Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  4. Follow camp rules, regulations and policies.
  5. Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities and the environment.
  6. Maintain good public relations with campers’ parents, visitors, and the community.
  7. Submit all required reports and paperwork on time, keeping accurate records on campers.
  8. Assist with the seasonal opening and closing of camp.
  9. Participate in weekly openings, closings, all camps overnights.
  10. Help with camp maintenance and clean up of facilitates when necessary.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Employee Status:
Exempt, not covered by the minimum wage or overtime guidelines under Minnesota State law.

Training begins on May 31st and the last date of employment is August 27.

Job Title: Waterfront Counselor
Reports To: Camp Director

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Applicable training and experience in waterfront activities and management.
  2. Current certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Lifeguard from equivalent agency.
  3. Current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR or equivalent agency.
  4. Ability to schedule and supervise campers and staff while participating in waterfront activities.
  5. Desire and ability to work with children and adults outdoors in an active environment.
  6. Ability to relate to one’s peer group.
  7. Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  8. Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  9. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.
  10. High school diploma or equivalent.
  11. At least 18 years of age.

Employee Status:
Exempt, not covered by the minimum wage or overtime guidelines under Minnesota State Law.

Responsible To:
Head Lifeguard or Waterfront Director

General Responsibilities:
Assist the Head Lifeguard in maintaining strict health and safety standards in accordance with the American Red Cross, American Camp Association, and Camp Fire standards at the waterfront at all times.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  2. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  3. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels), and provide necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
  4. Physical strength to lift 51 – 100 lbs.
  5. Abilities to observe and hear camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  6. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
  7. Cognitive and communication abilities to plan and conduct the activity to achieve camper development objectives.
  8. Physical ability and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers and staff in program area.
  9. Reading and writing ability in planning and conducting activity schedules.

Specific Responsibilities:

  1. Assist and maintain a safe quality waterfront program for camper and staff in accordance with the American Red Cross, ACA, and Camp Fire standards.
  2. Assist in the supervision of waterfront activities.  I.e. canoeing, fishing, swimming, water trampoline…
  3. Promote and maintain health and safety standards at the waterfront and all areas of camp and camp program.
  4. Assist with swim testing campers and staff for swimming skills for classification of their abilities.
  5. Provide program activities during scheduled waterfront activity times when weather prohibits use of waterfront.
  6. Be a resource and teaching person to campers and staff.
  7. Assist with camp program when free from waterfront responsibilities.
  8. Work with staff to create and implement innovative and fun waterfront activities.
  9. Assist with daily living chores.
  10. Assist with opening and closing of camp.
  11. Participate in all staff meetings and training’s.
  12. Participate in opening, closing, and all-camp duties when assigned.
  13. Assist in the implementation of the camp rules and regulations.
  14. Assume other responsibilities as agreed upon with the waterfront director.
  15. Assist with camp program when free from waterfront duties.

These are not the only duties to be performed.  Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

 


 

Job Title: Health and Wellness Director
Purpose: Oversees the health and safety of campers and staff
Reports To: Camp Director and Camp Nurse

  2. Communicate, as needed, to parents regarding health status/concerns of campers.
  3. Review health forms, health concerns, and camper medication prior to camp, contact parent/child if questions occur.
  4. Maintain medical log, complete forms for each illness/injury.
  5. Hold and dispense medications at camp.
  6. Prepare and maintain first aid kits for various on-site locations and off camp trips. 
  7. Maintain health center and supplies.
  8. Attend all staff trainings and meetings and notify staff of health problems and concerns.
  9. Be a resource and teaching person to campers and staff.
  10. Participate in opening, closing, and all-camp duties when assigned.
  11. Consult with Camp Nurse daily to ensure safe medical practices.
  12. Maintain camp Lost & Found.
  13. Provide basic health and wellness programs to youth.
  14. Other duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

  10. Live on-site. Health and Wellness Director will have two hours off each day and off from Friday at 6:00 pm – Sunday at 10:00 am.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Current certification in American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR or equivalent agency.
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age by June 1, 2011.
  3. Desire and ability to work with children and adults outdoors in an active environment.
  4. Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  5. Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.
  6. At least two years post-secondary education.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Higher level medical training (including RN, NP, First Responder, EMT or medical school).
  2. Bachelor’s Degree.
  3. Experience working with youth in an outdoor setting.
Compensation:
  1. $325/week plus room and board. More if RN.
  2. Position begins June 1 and ends August 27.
