Youth Voices: The Impact of Camp Fire

Youth from the Yorkdale Townhomes Camp Fire club spoke about what Camp Fire means to them.

HenokHenok, age 9:

My name is Henok and I like coming to Camp Fire because being at home after school is not as much fun.  I also like playing really fun games like kickball and Blat with the other kids.  I learned about recycling and not wasting stuff in Camp Fire and made a container for my house re-using materials we had at club.  I like going on field trips and seeing new things like when we went to California Pizza Kitchen and got to make our own pizzas and see the kitchen.  I also liked eating the pizza.  Camp Fire is good for kids because you get help with your homework and that helps at school.  Also, the grownups at Camp Fire are nice and help you solve conflicts in different ways and they are fun.  Camp Fire is a fun place to go.  Thank you.

KristenKristen, age 7:

My name is Kristen and I like coming to Camp Fire because all the kids are nice.  They always like to play games and have fun.  I love playing games and doing art projects with my friends.  I really liked making my very own calendar this year and drawing my own pictures.  I get to do my homework at Camp Fire and I like getting help when I need it.  I would be really bored if there was no Camp Fire.

AsiaAsia, age 11:

My name is Asia and going to Camp Fire is really fun.  The kids are respectful and nice and let everyone play the games.  The adults at Camp Fire are nice and speak respectfully to the kids and help a lot.  The homework help is really good and helps me a lot at school.  We also get to do lots of different things at Camp Fire like try new healthy kinds of snacks and make our own waffles from scratch.  I also really liked making my own place mat that showed what was important to me, and growing my own salt crystals for a science experiment.

GavinGavin, age 10:

My name is Gavin and I would be very bored without Camp Fire.  I like playing the games and learning new stuff.  It is fun to just be able to play.  The adults at Camp Fire help me with homework and are nice and fun.  I really like that we get to try lots of different things.  I learned how to make fun things like homemade ice cream in a bag.  I am also the word search champion of our Camp Fire club.
